Believe It Or Not; Ripley's Back!

Ripley's Game PosterThe talented Mr. Ripley returns to the big screen this week in another deadly tale.

John Malkovich plays the eponymous antihero in 'Ripley's Game' which also stars Dougray Scott and Ray Winstone.

After overhearing disparaging comments about himself at a party, Ripley embarks on an act of revenge which has far-reaching consequences.

The film, based on Patricia Highsmith's novel, was directed by Liliana Cavani who is probably best known in this country for her controversial 1974 picture, 'The Night Porter.'

Denzel's Directorial Debut

It's All A 'Charade'!

With the romantic city of Paris as a backdrop and featuring Mark Wahlberg, Thandie Newton and Tim Robbins, the film tells the intriguing story of a woman who finds out more about her husband in death than she ever knew in life.

King Of The 'Castle'

Bill Nighy and Tara FitzgeraldPopular British actor, Bill Nighy stars in a film adaptation of Dodie Smith's much-loved novel 'I Capture The Castle' which opens in cinemas today.

The star, who is well-known from such films as 'Still Crazy' and 'Lawless Heart', is joined by a strong Anglo American cast including Tara Fitzgerald, Marc Blucas, Henry Thomas and hot newcomers, Romola Garai and Rose Byrne.

The film, shot on location in Wales and on the Isle of Man, tells the story of a writer's family who have fallen on hard times and how their fortunes change with the arrival of two wealthy Americans.

Acting Up In Dublin

Michael Caine & Dylan MoranThe world premiere of Conor McPherson's 'The Actors' took place in Dublin last night.

The film's stars including Sir Michael Caine, Dylan Moran, Sir Michael Gambon, Lena Headey and, newcomer, Abigail Iversen joined producers Stephen Woolley and Neil Jordan and director Conor McPherson at the glittering event.

Ardal O'Hanlon, Frank Kelly and Brian Kennedy were among the many Irish showbiz stars who also attended the screening at the Savoy cinema in O'Connell Street.

'The Actors' opens in the UK on 16th May.

X-citing Night Out

Rebecca Romijn-Stamos, Famke Janssen & Kelly HuThree thousand fans packed London's Leicester Square last night for the premiere of the eagerly-awaited 'X-Men 2'.

Stars from the film including Sir Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart and Hugh Jackman trod the blue carpet outside the Odeon in the heart of the West End.

Glamour was provided by the film's female stars including Famke Janssen, Rebecca Romijn-Stamos, Anna Paquin and Kelly Hu.

Brian Cox and Halle Berry were absent as they'll be attending the Scottish premiere of the film on Tuesday.

The film's young director, Bryan Singer, also directed the first film which took almost $300 million dollars worldwide.

'X-Men 2' goes on general release from 1st May.

Gareth Gates meets his fansMore than 1500 fans turned out in Leicester Square last night to greet S Club at the premiere of their debut film 'Seeing Double.'

Tina, Hannah, Jo, Rachel, Jon and Bradley spent time signing autographs before the screening along with heartthrob Gareth Gates who also appears in the film as his own double!

Other guests included Rachel's fiance, Jeremy Edwards, former S Club member Paul Cattermole and Will Young.

'Seeing Double' opens at cinemas this Friday.

'Phone Booth' Gets The Right Number

Colin Farrell in 'Phone Booth'Colin Farrell's latest film, 'Phone Booth', rang up $15 million at the US box office on its opening weekend.

The film, in which a philandering PR man is terrorised by a sniper, was held back for five months following the real life sniper attacks in the States.

Director, Joel Schumacher who made Colin Farrell a household name by casting him in 'Tigerland' is delighted that the film has triumphed after frustrating setbacks.

'Phone Booth' opens on this side of the Atlantic on 18th April.

A Very 'English' Premiere

Rowan Atkinson, his wife and the Aston MartinRowan Atkinson made a grand entrance at last night's premiere of his new film, 'Johnny English.'

Atkinson pulled up outside the Empire cinema in London's West End in the Aston Martin Vanquish which features in the film.

His co-stars; Natalie Imbruglia, John Malkovich and Ben Miller, were also at the screening along with director Peter Howitt.

Johnny English is based on the MI6 agent who featured in the very popular Barclaycard TV ads in the 80s. The film opens nationwide on Friday.

Brosnan Celebrates St Patrick's Day In Style

Pierce Brosnan & Beau St ClairPierce Brosnan celebrated St Patrick's Day by attending the UK premiere of his new film 'Evelyn'.

Hundreds of fans waited outside the Odeon West End in Leicester Square, to greet Brosnan who plays a father taking on the law of the land in 1950's Ireland in the film.

Also at the special screening was Sophie Vavasseur who plays the young Evelyn and the woman whose story inspired the film, Evelyn Doyle.

Whether the glittering event would even take place had been in doubt owing to the looming war in Iraq but Brosnan was determined that the show would go on.

Bafta's Biggest Night

Daniel Day Lewis accepts his Best Actor AwardIt's being hailed as the most successful Bafta event yet as some of the film world's biggest names turned out for last night's Orange British Academy Film Awards in London's West End.

Michael Douglas, Catherine Zeta Jones, Nicole Kidman and Meryl Streep were just a few of the many stars to tread the red carpet outside the Odeon Leicester Square.

There were quite a few surprises when the winners were announced. Daniel Day Lewis, in his first film for five years, beat off stiff competition from Jack Nicholson and Nicolas Cage to pick up the Best Actor Award for 'Gangs of New York.' The Best Actress gong went to Nicole Kidman who 'shared' it with her co-stars in Stephen Daldry's 'The Hours', Julianne Moore and Meryl Streep.

Newcomer, Asif Kapadia was lost for words as he carried off the Best British Film prize and the Carl Foreman award for special achievement in a first feature film for his stunning debut, 'The Warrior.'

Lord Attenborough and Asif KapadiaPerhaps the most surprising moments came when 'The Pianist' won Best Film and Roman Polanski was honoured as Best Director. The film's star, Adrien Brody, accepted the David Lean Award on behalf of the absent filmmaker.

Look Hugh's Kissing Her Now

Hugh Grant & Sandra BullockHugh Grant and Sandra Bullock set tongues wagging and the press speculating as they acted up for the cameras at last night's London premiere of 'Two Weeks Notice.'

So good is the chemistry between the two stars in the romantic comedy, that people are convinced that, much to the pair's amusement, they are actually in love.

Other stars at the screening in Leicester Square included Eddie Izzard, Jane Horrocks and Elle Macpherson.

'Two Weeks Notice' opens across the UK on 7th February.

Premiere Goes With A Bang

Susan SarandonTwo of Hollywood’s top leading ladies brought some LA glitz to London’s Leicester Square last night for the premiere of their new movie, ‘The Banger Sisters’.

The stars of the film, Goldie Hawn and Susan Sarandon, who play reunited groupies from their infamous days of sex, drugs and rock and roll, were greeted by their own band of loyal fans as they arrived at the Warner West End cinema.

Bob Geldof, singer Beverley Knight, Emma Forbes and staff from TV’s ‘The Salon’ were also at the gala screening.

Con Fly With Me

Leonardo DiCaprio & his bevy of beautiesLeonardo DiCaprio brought a hint of glamour to London’s West End last night at the UK premiere of ‘Catch Me If You Can’.

Flanked by a bevy of beautiful flight attendants, the 28-year-old star mingled with the crowds in Leicester Square along with his co-star Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg.

Also in attendance was Frank Abagnale whose story inspired the film of a teenage conman defrauding Pan American Airways among others.

'Gangs' Up For Gongs

Sir Ian McKellanMartin Scorsese's sweeping epic 'Gangs of New York' leads the field with 12 nominations for The Orange British Academy Film Awards.

This year's contenders were announced this morning by Sir Ian McKellan at BAFTA's headquarters in London's Piccadilly. Sir Ian's own film, 'The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers', garnered no less than 9 nominations.

First time director Asif Kapadia was recognised in 3 categories for his bold feature, 'The Warrior.'

The winners will be announced on Sunday 23rd February at the Odeon in Leicester Square.

Entertainment's Big Night at the Golden Globes

Jack NicholsonJack Nicholson walked away with the Best Actor award at last night’s 60th Annual Golden Globes ceremony.

Nicholson was honoured for his portrayal of a man in search of a purpose in ‘About Schmidt’. The film also picked up the Best Screenplay gong for Alexander Payne and Jim Taylor. It opens in the UK on Friday.

Martin ScorseseIt was fifth time lucky for Martin Scorsese whose epic ‘Gangs of New York’ earned him the Best Director award. Irish rockers, U2 won in the Best Original Song category for ‘The Hands That Built America’ from that film.

The Best Film winner was Stephen Daldry’s ‘The Hours’ for which Nicole Kidman won the Best Actress in a Drama accolade. Renee Zellweger won in the Best Actress in a Comedy/Musical category for ‘Chicago’ and Richard Gere carried off the Best Actor award for the same title.

‘Gangs’ of Leicester Square

Leonardo DiCaprioAround 2,000 screaming fans gave Leonardo DiCaprio a warm welcome when he arrived in a cold Leicester Square for last night’s premiere of Martin Scorsese’s ‘Gangs of New York.’

All eyes were on the 28-year-old who stars in the epic drama alongside Cameron Diaz and Daniel Day-Lewis. Also attending the glittering event at the Empire cinema were fellow stars Jim Broadbent and Lucy Davenport and legendary director, Martin Scorsese.

Scorsese has been working on the film off and on since the 1970s and UK audiences will get to see the finished product when it opens across the country on Friday.
