Thousands of fans turned out in force last night for the eagerly awaited world premiere of 'The Lord of the Rings : The Fellowship of the Ring'.
The cast, including Christopher Lee, Sir Ian McKellen, Ian Holm, Liv Tyler, Sean Bean, Dominic Monaghan and Billy Boyd, appeared at the glittering showing in London's Leceister Square.
However, the most popular star of the evening was Elijah Wood who plays the furry-footed hero, Frodo Baggins.
The man who made it all happen, director Peter Jackson, also attended the screening. The New Zealander felt very strongly that the world premiere be held in the UK as an acknowledgement of the story's British origins.
Also at the star-studded screening were Dougray Scott, Bob Geldof, Graham Norton, Alexander McQueen, Mick Hucknall, Frank Skinner, Tara Palmer-Tomkinson, Paul Young, Ruby Wax, Richard E. Grant, Amanda Holden and Hear'Say's Myleene, Danny and Noel.
'The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring' goes on general release from Wednesday 19th December.
